Teemu Kauppinen

Teemu Kauppinen has graduated as Master of Music from the Sibelius Academy, where his double bass teacher was Jussi Javas. In 1997-2000, Kauppinen continued his studies in the Cologne University of Music under professor Veit-Peter Schüssler. During this time, he also participated in Franco Petracchi’s master classes in Sermoneta, Italy.
In 1996, Kauppinen won the Kemira Master class Competition for Young Soloists. In 1997, he graduated from the Sibelius Academy with excellent grades. He held his first recital in Helsinki in 2000.

Kauppinen has premiered double bass works by composers Antti Auvinen, Kirmo Lintinen, Uljas Pulkkis, and Kai Nieminen.

Kauppinen frequently features in the line-up of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. He’s been a member of the Virtuosi di Kuhmo Chamber Orchestra since 1994. He played in the German Deutsche Kammerakademie Orchestra 1998-2000 and in the Savonlinna Opera Festival Orchestra in the summers between 2009 and 2016.

Kauppinen is an in-demand and active chamber musician, and in the last years, he’s performed e.g. at the Naantali Music Festival, the Crusell Festival in Uusikaupunki, the Korsholma Music Festival, the Oulunsalo Soi Festival, the Helsinki Spring Light Festival, and the Zagreb Kom Festival in Croatia.

Kauppinen’s instrument is an Italian Antonio Guadagnini double bass from 1879.
