Joel Laakso
Principal cellist in the Royal Danish Orchestra, Joel Laakso has appeared in concert in most European countries, the USA, South America, Russia, Japan, China and Australia, and has been the soloist with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Tapiola Sinfonietta, the Royal Danish Orchestra and other orchestras. He was the cellist in the New Helsinki Quartet 2000–2014 and is now a member of the Poseidon Quartet.
Beginning his cello studies at the Riihimäki Music Institute when he was five, Joel later continued at the Sibelius Academy, where his teachers included Martti Rousi, Erkki Rautio and Marcel Bergman. He also studied with Torleif Thedéen at the Edsberg Chamber Music Institute in Sweden.
